Public Markets Research Position
Location: Marina del Rey, California
Cliffwater LLC is looking to hire a public markets research professional to join our team of investment professionals who focus on investment research. Our public markets team conducts due diligence and monitors investments in traditional asset classes for client portfolios, including global and regional equity, fixed income, liquid real assets, and other investment opportunities.
The position is an ideal opportunity for candidate with at least five years of relevant work experience who holds a CFA designation or is progressing in the CFA program. Relevant work experience includes investment consulting, investment management, or finance. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in investment consulting or investment management and a CFA designation and/or MBA. The candidate should be able to multi-task, travel, and be flexible with work hours.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Investment manager due diligence. Analyze public markets investment opportunities by working with data in Excel format, investment manager databases, and general research.
- Client reporting. Assist in providing regular reports on investments to clients. Monitor client investments - requires knowledge of performance measurement, basic accounting rules and use of an investment manager database and internal database.
- Industry research. Conduct public markets and general investment research. Provide support to senior consulting professionals.
Candidates should have an excellent knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint, and other Microsoft programs, as well as an understanding of investment management. Candidates should have very strong writing and communication skills.

Private Equity Research Position – Analyst
Location: Marina del Rey, California
Cliffwater LLC is currently accepting resumes for an entry level investment professional to join our Private Assets Research Group. The research position includes manager due diligence, investment monitoring, and market research. The person will primarily focus on reviewing new investment opportunities, market research, and monitoring activity of existing private equity and real estate managers.
The position is an ideal opportunity for candidate with up to two years of relevant work experience as well as an undergraduate degree in economics or finance. Relevant work experience includes investment consulting or private equity investing. The candidate should possess a strong command of Excel. The work is writing-intensive and involves critical thinking. The candidate should be able to multi-task and be flexible with work hours.
Responsibilities are as follows:
- Fund-level due diligence. Analyze private equity investment opportunities by working with investment and financial data in Excel format, audited financial reports, and reviewing written investment memorandum. Write reports for internal and external use.
- Investment monitoring. Monitor client private equity fund investments by using an in-house private equity database. Review quarterly reports and annual audited reports. Write client monitoring reports and present findings to clients.
- Industry research. Conduct private equity market research. Use Excel and Powerpoint to mine data, create charts, and analyze trends.
Candidates should have an excellent knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint, and other Microsoft programs, as well as an understanding of investment fund financial statements. Candidates should have very strong writing and communication skills.
